Here’s a guide for anyone looking to purchase an aquamarine ring, either as an engagement ring or a ring for any purpose. There are a few things that you need to consider in order to make the best decision, and I will go over these factors.

The first step is to visit a high quality jewelry that has a great aquamarine ring inventory – Angara is my top recommendation – their rings are beautiful!

1. Aquamarine Ring Clarity

The clarity of the aquamarine gemstone in the ring is the first important factor. Clarity refers to the absence (or presence) of inclusions in the gemstone; the clearer, the better. There are a few different grading scales, including the GIA scale, which is usually used for diamonds, and other scales. Here’s what you need to know:

  • If the aquamarine stone is graded on the GIA scale, look for stones that are either F (flawless), IF (internally flawless), VVS1/VVS2 (very, very slightly included), or VS1/VS2 (very slightly included).
  • Another grade that indicates a high-quality aquamarine is EC, or eye clean.
  • So, you should generally choose an aquamarine that has been graded either EC, F, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, or VS2.

2. Aquamarine Color

This one, referring to the color of the aquamarine, is more up to your personal preference. Aquamarine stones usually range from light blue to deep blue, and some have greenish tints also. There are some technical names for aquamarine color, like “medium blue” and “deep blue”. Generally, the deep, pure blue stones are the most expensive and considered the most valuable. However, the choice of the color of the aquamarine is really up to you. If you would prefer a lighter shade of blue, then by all means, get the lighter shade.

3. Aquamarine Brilliance

The brilliance refers to the stone’s luster and how well it reflects light back to the eye. The higher the brilliance, the better, because it makes the stone come alive with light, shining and bringing out the color of the aquamarine. So, look for a stone that has high brilliance.
