Guys, the number one way to get an engagement that your fiancé loves is to let her pick it out herself! However, if you want to surprise her and pick one out herself, here are a few ways to make sure you select one that she’ll love.
First, take a look at the jewelry she already has. Notice the style and metal colors of the jewelry she has now.
- If she has mainly platinum, then you can be sure that she likes platinum, and you should go with that metal to mount the stone in. Same for white or yellow gold – notice what she has now and follow the pattern.
- Next, think about the style of jewelry she wears. Is it vintage, antique looking jewelry, or is it more contemporary? Try and find an engagement ring with a similar style as the jewelry she has now.
Also, try and see which jewelry she has and wears the most frequently, versus the jewelry she has and only wears occasionally. The jewelry she wears frequently is obviously going to give you a bigger clue to the kind of jewelry she likes the best and is the most comfortable in. Getting an engagement ring that follows these clues is a good bet.
One exception is if she has a family-heirloom or antique type piece of jewelry that she might only wear occasionally because she wants to preserve it, but adores the style of and would love an engagement ring with similar style.
Take note of her hints
If you haven’t noticed already, she’s probably already dropped hints as to what kind of jewelry she likes the best, even if she wasn’t referring to an engagement ring specifically. Try taking her casually to a jewelry store and see what she comments on. Browse throughout the store, and even tell her that you’re looking at watches if you want to be a little more subtle.
Get a ring that’s proportional to her hands
Think about how her hands look without a ring on them, and the subtle effect that you want her engagement to have on her hands. A long gemstone can make shorter fingers look a little bit longer, and a wide band can make fingers look a little bit shorter. So, get something that’s proportional to her hand and fingers.
Figure out her ring size
If you can, get a ring that she already wears on her engagement finger and take it long enough to get it sized.
Think about just getting a loose diamond or gemstone
If you get a loose stone, you can show it to her when you propose, and then later you can shop with her to get the rest of the ring put together.
What’s her favorite color?
You might want to get a gemstone in her favorite color. If she likes blue, for example, then get an aquamarine engagement ring. If she likes green, then get an emerald one.
Where to look for engagement rings?
Well, of course I recommend looking at the aquamarine engagement rings I have listed on this site!
